About Maisy Battery
The Maisy Battery is a vast German WWII artillery complex located between Omaha and Utah beaches, rediscovered in 2004 after being buried for 60 years. Built in secret using forced labor from Eastern Europe, the site consists of two resistance nests (WN83 and WN84) that housed six 155mm French howitzers and four 105mm cannons. On June 9, 1944, US Rangers from the 2nd and 5th Battalions captured the position after a five-hour assault.

British historian Gary Sterne discovered the battery in 2004 after finding an old Allied map showing an 'Area of High Resistance' near Grandcamp-Maisy. He bought the overgrown field from a local farmer without knowing what lay beneath, and began digging to find the first trench in what would turn out to be a 144-acre complex with 27 different previous owners.
