The museum's entire collection originated from one man's obsession. Self-taught historian Jean-Pierre Verney spent over 45 years amassing approximately 50,000 artifacts, creating one of the most significant private WWI collections in Europe. The local government acquired it in 2005 specifically to prevent the collection from being sold abroad.
