About Tatihou Island
Tatihou Island sits 1 kilometer off Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue in the Cotentin Peninsula, accessible by amphibious boat or on foot at low tide. The 28-hectare island houses the Vauban Tower, built in 1694 as part of the coastal defense system and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. The Maritime Museum, located in the former 18th-century quarantine station (lazaret), displays archaeological artifacts from the 1692 Battle of La Hougue when Anglo-Dutch forces destroyed French warships in the bay.

The amphibious boat Tatihou III is one of the most unusual ferry services in France. Equipped with both a propeller and wheels, it sails through the water at high tide but drives along the seabed when the tide drops, switching seamlessly between marine and land vehicle as conditions change during the 5-15 minute crossing.
