About Castle of Dreams
The Château des Rêves is a 19th-century castle built between 1863-1867 by architect Maurice Sidoine Storez for Marquis Armand Alexis Odet de Montault. The building replaced earlier medieval fortifications on this site, including structures dating back to William the Conqueror's era in the 11th century. Designed in Second Empire opera house style, the castle features ornate interior décor that earned it protected historic monument status in 1996.

Ruins of medieval fortifications from the original 11th-century castle can still be found in the forest near the current château. These remnants belonged to a castle once owned by Robert de Leicester, a powerful Anglo-Norman lord who died in 1168.
