About Château de Vincennes
The Château de Vincennes is a medieval royal fortress on the eastern edge of Paris, built between the 12th and 17th centuries. Its 52-metre donjon, completed under Charles V in 1371, remains the tallest medieval fortified tower in Europe. The complex includes the Sainte-Chapelle de Vincennes, a Flamboyant Gothic chapel begun in 1379 and finished only in 1552, with original 16th-century stained glass windows.

Three French kings died at Vincennes within just 12 years: Louis X in 1316, Philip V in 1322, and Charles IV in 1328. This rapid succession of royal deaths in a single location contributed to the end of the Capetian dynasty's direct line and triggered the events leading to the Hundred Years' War.
