About Paris Zoo
5 hectares in the Bois de Vincennes, in the 12th arrondissement. Originally built in 1934 following the success of the 1931 Colonial Exhibition, the zoo underwent a complete five-year reconstruction and reopened in 2014 with a modern design organized around five geographical biozones: Patagonia, Sahel-Sudan, Europe, Guyana, and Madagascar. Over 1,000 animals from approximately 225 species live in open-air enclosures that replicate their natural habitats.

The zoo was born from a temporary animal exhibit at the 1931 International Colonial Exhibition in the Bois de Vincennes. The exhibit drew such massive crowds that Paris authorities decided to build a permanent zoo on the same site, opening it three years later in 1934.
