About Colbert Bridge
The Pont Colbert is a historic rotating swing bridge spanning Dieppe's port channel, built in 1887-1888 by engineer Paul Alexandre and opened on January 1, 1889. This 70-meter wrought-iron structure is the last large swing bridge in Europe still operating with its original hydraulic mechanism, earning classification as a Historic Monument in 2020. The bridge rotates in just 95 seconds to allow ships passage, a spectacle that draws visitors daily.

Despite being nicknamed "Pont Eiffel" or "the little Eiffel Tower" due to its similar wrought-iron construction and cross of Saint Andrew design, Gustave Eiffel had no involvement in building this bridge. It was entirely designed and constructed by engineer Paul Alexandre, who won a silver medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition for this achievement.
