About Le Pollet District
Le Pollet is Dieppe's historic fishermen's quarter, located on the right bank of the Arques river estuary. This atmospheric neighborhood has been home to the city's sailors and fishing families since the Middle Ages, remarkably escaping the devastating Anglo-Dutch bombardment of 1694 that destroyed much of central Dieppe. Wandering through its narrow cobblestone streets lined with traditional brick and flint houses, visitors can experience the authentic maritime heritage that made Dieppe one of Normandy's most important fishing ports.

The Poltais, as residents of Le Pollet are called, developed their own distinct dialect and culinary traditions over centuries. Their isolation on the right bank of the river created such a unique culture that recipes prepared 'a la poltaise' still feature fish-based dishes passed down through generations of fishing families.
