About Rueil-Malmaison Friendship Park
5-hectare public park in the center of Rueil-Malmaison, organized around a 2,500 m² Japanese-style garden with a red wooden bridge, cascade, and stream lined with pebbles. Created in 1977, the park celebrates the city's sister-city partnerships — each twinned city is represented by plantings of trees native to that country. The Josephine Rose Garden, inaugurated in 1988, features around 50 rose varieties including 'Jubilé Impérial' and 'Souvenir de Joséphine,' honoring Empress Josephine de Beauharnais who lived nearby at Château de Malmaison.

The Japanese garden section was inspired by Rueil-Malmaison's twinning with Togane, Japan, established as part of the city's international partnership program. The red wooden bridge, cascade, and pebble-lined stream are sometimes compared to the famous Albert Kahn Japanese Gardens in nearby Boulogne-Billancourt, one of the finest Japanese gardens in France.
