About Orsay Museum
Housed in a magnificent Beaux-Arts railway station built for the 1900 World's Fair, the Musée d'Orsay holds the world's largest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces. The museum occupies the former Gare d'Orsay railway station, designed by architect Victor Laloux and inaugurated on July 14, 1900 for the Universal Exhibition. By 1939, the station's short platforms became obsolete for modern long-distance trains, leading to its eventual abandonment.
