About Assemblée Nationale
The Assemblée Nationale occupies the Palais Bourbon, an 18th-century palace on the Left Bank of the Seine facing Place de la Concorde. Built between 1722 and 1728 for Louise-Françoise de Bourbon, daughter of Louis XIV, the palace became the seat of France's lower house of parliament during the Revolution. Napoleon commissioned the imposing neoclassical colonnade of 12 Corinthian columns on the river-facing facade between 1806 and 1810, deliberately aligning it with the Temple de la Madeleine across the Seine.

The palace is named after the Bourbon royal dynasty that the French Revolution overthrew — making it an ironic symbol for republican democracy. Louise-Françoise de Bourbon, who commissioned it, was a legitimised daughter of Louis XIV and his mistress Madame de Montespan.
