About Petit Palais
The Petit Palais houses the City of Paris fine arts museum, with a permanent collection spanning from antiquity to the early 20th century across 5,000 square meters of gallery space. Architect Charles Girault designed the Beaux-Arts building for the 1900 World's Fair, winning the commission over more established rivals in an 1894 competition. The collection includes Greek and Roman antiquities, medieval and Renaissance objects, Dutch Golden Age paintings, and French art up to 1914, with notable works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Monet, and Cézanne.

Although inaugurated for the 1900 World's Fair, the building was not truly finished until 1925, when painter Maurice Denis completed the dome murals depicting the history of French art. The full construction and decoration process took 25 years from start to finish.
