About Museum of Art and History
The Museum of Art and History occupies the Centre culturel Jean-Lurçat, a modern building inaugurated in 1989 after the original museum was destroyed during the 1944 bombardments that devastated 95% of Saint-Lô. The collection spans over 500 works across 300 square meters, featuring paintings from the 16th to 20th centuries by artists including Camille Corot, Jean-François Millet, Eugène Boudin, and Fernand Léger. A highlight is the collection of Bruges tapestries depicting peasant life scenes.

During a 2018 inventory, curators rediscovered a Virgin and Child painting by Spanish artist Juan Bautista Martínez del Mazo, a 17th-century work that had been on loan from the Louvre since 1863. The painting had been in the collection for over 150 years before its attribution was properly identified.
