Napoleon Bonaparte signed his abdication at Fontainebleau on April 6, 1814, in the room now known as the Abdication Room. He then gave his famous farewell speech to the Old Guard in the Cour des Adieux (Courtyard of Farewells), which was renamed after this emotional event.
