About Palace of the King of Rome
The Palais du Roi de Rome is a neoclassical palace in Rambouillet, originally commissioned by Napoleon I in 1806 as a future residence for his son, the King of Rome. Designed by architect Auguste Famin in elegant Tuscan style, the building features decorative bay windows, shell-relief ornamentation, and classical columns. Though the central section was demolished in the 1830s, the surviving western pavilion now houses a free municipal museum.

The palace was named after Napoleon's infant son, Napoleon II, who bore the title "King of Rome" from birth in 1811. Ironically, the child never actually lived in the palace, as the Empire fell before he came of age.
