About Saint Joan of Arc Church
The Church of Saint Joan of Arc stands on the historic Place du Vieux-Marché, the exact site where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake on May 30, 1431. Designed by architect Louis Arretche and consecrated in 1979, this striking modern church features a revolutionary design shaped like an overturned Viking longship, evoking both Norman maritime traditions and the flames of Joan's martyrdom. The interior houses 13 magnificent Renaissance stained glass windows from 1520-1530, originally from the Church of Saint-Vincent destroyed in WWII, which create a stunning 500-square-meter wall of colored light.

The church's 13 Renaissance stained glass windows were miraculously saved from destruction in World War II. In 1939, just months before the bombing that destroyed the original Church of Saint-Vincent, the French Service des Monuments Historiques carefully removed and stored all the windows in a secure location. When the church was bombed in 1944, only the walls crumbled – the precious 16th-century glass survived intact and waited 35 years to find its new home.
