About The Major Axis
A monumental outdoor artwork and urban promenade designed by Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan, begun in 1980. This 3.2 km public art project features 12 stations including the iconic 36-meter Tour Belvédère tower with its signature green laser beam at night. Recognized as Architecture contemporaine remarquable in 2022.

L'Axe Majeur is one of the largest site-specific environmental sculptures on the planet, stretching 3.2 kilometres from the hilltop of Cergy down to the banks of the Oise River. Construction began in July 1985, and the first elements were inaugurated by Culture Minister Jack Lang in January 1986.
