About Meissonier Park
Parc Meissonier is Poissy's main public park, covering 12 hectares in the English Romantic landscape style. The grounds were originally part of a royal Dominican monastery that stood here for nearly five centuries before being converted to private use after the French Revolution. The park is named after Ernest Meissonier (1815-1891), a celebrated French painter known for his detailed depictions of Napoleonic military campaigns, who lived in Poissy from 1845 and served as the town's mayor.

Renaissance poets Christine de Pizan, Anne de Marquets, and Pierre de Ronsard all praised the monastery gardens that occupied these grounds, making the site a documented source of literary inspiration for over 400 years before it became a public park.
