About Claude Debussy House Museum
The only museum entirely dedicated to Claude Debussy occupies the 17th-century townhouse where the composer was born on August 22, 1862. His family ran a ceramics shop on the ground floor, which has been recreated to show the atmosphere of the original store. Upper floors display personal objects from Debussy's life, including his work desk, a lamp he reportedly used while composing Pelléas et Mélisande, and a Japanese lacquer panel with golden carp that inspired his piano piece Poissons d'or.

Debussy lived in this house for only about two years (1862–1864) before his family left due to financial difficulties. His father later joined the Paris Commune during the 1871 uprising and was imprisoned for two years, further scattering the family across France.
