Maurice Denis Museum, Saint-Germain-en-Laye

The Musée Maurice Denis occupies Le Prieuré, a former royal hospital built in the late 17th century at the request of Madame de Montespan, mistress of Louis XIV. Painter Maurice Denis purchased the property in 1914 and lived there until his death in 1943. The Yvelines department acquired the estate in 1976 following a major donation from the Denis family, opening the museum to the public in 1980.
