About André Malraux Park
A 25-hectare departmental park in Nanterre, bordering the La Défense business district. Designed by landscape architect Jacques Sgard, the park opened its first sections in April 1977 and was fully completed by 1981. Named posthumously after André Malraux, the former Minister of Cultural Affairs who initiated the project in 1964.
André Malraux Park — Planning Your Visit
Open 24/7
This attraction is accessible at any time, no specific opening hours required.
The park sits on the site of one of the largest shantytowns in the Paris region. In the 1950s-60s, immigrant workers lived here in makeshift shelters with no running water or electricity. The transformation from bidonville to landscaped park is total — no trace of the former settlement remains visible today.
