About Church of Saint Patrick
This parish church traces its origins to the 5th century and is named after Saint Patrick, who according to tradition stopped in Bayeux while traveling through France. The most striking feature is the seven-story Renaissance bell tower built between 1544-1548, standing 31 meters tall and representing the only Renaissance-era monument in Bayeux. The current building combines multiple architectural styles: the Renaissance tower, a Classical choir reconstructed in 1747, and a neo-Gothic nave rebuilt in 1863.
One of the stained glass windows in the church nearly exactly copies Raphael's famous painting 'The Marriage of the Virgin' (1504). The artist Maurice Muraire recreated this Renaissance masterpiece in glass, and interestingly, an earlier window by Duhamel Marette was also inspired by the same Raphael work.
