About Malmaison State Forest
The Malmaison State Forest, also known as Bois de Saint-Cucufa, covers 201 hectares across three communes west of Paris: Rueil-Malmaison, Vaucresson, and La Celle-Saint-Cloud. The woodland once formed part of the vast estate acquired by Empress Josephine in 1800, who used it for agriculture, sheep farming, and carriage rides. Today the ONF (National Forestry Office) manages the forest, which is dominated by chestnut trees (44%) and sessile oaks (21%).

Open 24/7
This attraction is accessible at any time, no specific opening hours required.
In 860 AD, the forest belonged to Benedictine monks from the Abbey of Saint-Denis, who built a chapel dedicated to Saint Cucufa on the site. This chapel gave the forest its alternative name, Bois de Saint-Cucufa, which locals still use today.
