About Caesar's Tower
Caesar's Tower is a 12th-century keep in the medieval hilltop town of Provins, built between 1150 and 1175 under Count Henri the Liberal of Champagne. The tower stands 44 meters tall and features a distinctive octagonal body rising from a square base — the only known keep with this design in medieval European military architecture. 5 meters thick, with prison cells built directly into the masonry from the original construction.

Despite its name, Caesar's Tower has no connection to Julius Caesar. Medieval inhabitants commonly attributed impressive structures to the Roman general, whose Gallic campaigns were well known. The actual builder was Henri the Liberal, Count of Champagne, who constructed it as a symbol of his power during the prosperous era of the Champagne Fairs.
