About Saint-Quiriace Collegiate Church
The Collégiale Saint-Quiriace is a 12th-century church in the upper town of Provins, part of the UNESCO World Heritage site. Construction began around 1140 under Count Thibaut II of Champagne and continued under Henri I the Liberal, who redesigned the choir on a grand scale modeled after Sens Cathedral. The nave was planned with eight bays but only two were ever built — funding dried up as the Champagne trade fairs declined in the late 13th century.

The church was designed to hold around 100 ecclesiastics in its choir alone. At its peak, the chapter of Saint-Quiriace was one of the wealthiest in the Champagne region, funded directly by revenues from the Champagne trade fairs that made Provins a major commercial hub of medieval Europe.
