About Monmousseau Wine Cellars
Monmousseau Wine Cellars occupy a former tuffeau stone quarry in Montrichard-Val-de-Cher, just minutes from Château de Chenonceau. Founded in 1886 by Alcide Monmousseau, the estate produces sparkling wines using the traditional method (méthode traditionnelle) in 15 km of underground galleries kept at a constant 12°C year-round. The visit follows a 700-metre circuit through three stages: an outdoor panoramic viewpoint over the Cher Valley, the Cave aux Lumières — a 600-metre gallery with digital light projections depicting Loire Valley châteaux on the tuffeau walls — and the active production cellars where bottles age for 2 to 3 years.
