About Montpoupon Castle
Château de Montpoupon is a privately owned castle in the Loire Valley, built on a rocky promontory that has been occupied since the 9th century. The current structure combines a 13th-century medieval keep with Renaissance-era living quarters added by the de Prie family around 1460. The de la Motte Saint-Pierre family has owned the castle since 1857 and still lives there, giving visitors a rare look at a genuinely inhabited Loire château.
