About Château de Montrésor
" The site dates to around 1005 AD when Fulk Nerra, Count of Anjou, ordered construction of a stone fortress here — one of the earliest in France. The current Renaissance residence was built within the medieval walls from 1493 by Imbert de Batarnay, adviser to four French kings. In 1849 the estate was purchased by Polish exile Count Xavier Branicki, who spent twenty years restoring the interiors and filling them with art, furniture, and Polish historical artifacts.
