About Montrésor Village Center
Montrésor is a compact village of about 300 residents on the banks of the Indrois river, officially classified among Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. The village center features white tuffeau limestone facades, half-timbered houses, and cobbled streets winding beneath the medieval castle perched on a rocky spur above. Walking the Grande Rue, visitors pass the 16th-century Collégiale Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the Halle aux Cardeux, a timber market hall from around 1700 that now houses a glass art museum.

The village name literally means "my treasure" in French. Legend says it comes from a treasure discovered during early construction on the rocky spur where the castle now stands, though no historical record confirms what the treasure actually was.
