About Château de Sceaux
The Domaine de Sceaux is a 181-hectare estate located 10 km south of central Paris in the Hauts-de-Seine department. The property centres on a 19th-century château built in the Louis XIII style between 1856 and 1862, which houses the Musée du Domaine départemental de Sceaux — a collection of paintings, decorative arts, and ceramics spanning the 17th to 19th centuries. The surrounding park was designed by André Le Nôtre in the 1670s for Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Louis XIV's finance minister, and features a 1,140-metre Grand Canal, formal parterres, fountains, and wooded groves arranged across seventeen terraces.

The original Colbert-era château, decorated by Charles Le Brun and Claude Perrault, was completely demolished around 1803 by a merchant from Saint-Malo who bought the estate after the Revolution. Only the Orangerie, Pavillon de l'Aurore, and stables survived. The current building is an entirely new construction from the 1850s–60s, designed to evoke the Louis XIII style rather than replicate the original.
