About Paris Catacombs
The Paris Catacombs are an underground ossuary beneath the streets of the 14th arrondissement, housing the remains of more than six million people in a network of tunnels that once served as limestone quarries. Established in the late 18th century to address the city's overflowing cemeteries, the bones were transferred and carefully arranged into the haunting displays visible today.
