About Church of Saint-Étienne-du-Mont
Saint-Étienne-du-Mont stands on the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève in the Latin Quarter, directly behind the Panthéon. Built between 1492 and 1626, the church blends late Gothic and early Renaissance architecture across 134 years of construction. Its most celebrated feature is the rood screen (jubé) — the last surviving example in Paris and one of only nine remaining in all of France — a carved stone gallery with twin spiral staircases that separates the nave from the choir.

In 1793 during the French Revolution, revolutionaries exhumed Saint Genevieve's relics from their ornate shrine, melted down the gold and silver decorations on the Place de Grève, and publicly burned her bones. The small fragments now preserved at the church were recovered from other churches that had received secondary relics centuries earlier.
