About Legion of Honor Park
The Parc de la Légion d'Honneur is a 24-hectare green oasis in the heart of Saint-Denis, originally part of the grounds belonging to the Abbey of Saint-Denis. In 1805, Napoleon Bonaparte established the Maison d'Éducation de la Légion d'Honneur on this site, a prestigious school for daughters of Legion of Honor recipients. The southern portion of the estate was opened to the public in 1992 under an agreement between the city and the National Order of the Legion of Honor.

The park's land is technically owned by the French Presidency (the Élysée), not the city of Saint-Denis. The municipality only manages the southern portion under a formal convention signed in 1970, which eventually led to public access in 1992.
