Housed in a former medieval charitable hospital with a classified 17th-century facade, the Musée de l'Hôtel-Dieu in Mantes-la-Jolie is a "Musée de France"-labeled institution offering a fascinating journey through art and history. The museum holds the largest collection dedicated to Neo-Impressionist painter Maximilien Luce in Europe, with nearly 350 works including paintings, drawings, engravings, and ceramics donated by the artist's son in 1971.

The Hôtel-Dieu institution in Mantes dates back to the 11th century, but the original building was destroyed in 1087 during William the Conqueror's siege and sack of the city. The current structure was rebuilt between 1646 and 1675 by Augustinian nuns.
