About Museum of Modern Art of Paris
The Museum of Modern Art of Paris occupies the east wing of the Palais de Tokyo, a building constructed for the 1937 International Exposition on the banks of the Seine near the Trocadéro. The permanent collection holds around 15,000 works spanning the 20th and 21st centuries, from Fauvism and Cubism through Surrealism, Nouveau Réalisme, and contemporary art. Among its centerpieces are Raoul Dufy's 600-square-meter mural "La Fée Électricité" and Henri Matisse's monumental "La Danse" panels installed in the main stairwell.

In May 2010, a lone thief nicknamed "Spider-Man" climbed the museum's exterior wall and stole five paintings by Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Modigliani, and Léger worth an estimated 100–110 million euros. The museum's alarm system had been broken for weeks and three on-duty guards noticed nothing. The paintings have never been recovered — an accomplice claimed he panicked and threw them in a dumpster.
