About Nissim de Camondo Museum
The Nissim de Camondo Museum occupies a private mansion built between 1911 and 1914 at the edge of Parc Monceau in Paris's 8th arrondissement. Count Moïse de Camondo, a banker from a wealthy Sephardic Jewish family originally from Istanbul, commissioned architect René Sergent to design the building after the Petit Trianon at Versailles, specifically to house his collection of 18th-century French decorative arts. The interior contains furniture by royal cabinet-makers Oeben and Riesener, Savonnerie carpets originally woven for the Louvre, a Sèvres porcelain dinner service with hand-painted bird illustrations, and the Orlov silver service once commissioned for Catherine the Great of Russia.

Moïse de Camondo's will contains a legally binding clause requiring that photographs of his son Nissim remain in the exact positions where he originally placed them. Museum staff cannot move these photographs even during renovations — this is not a curatorial decision but a testamentary obligation.
