About Château de Blandy-les-Tours
Château de Blandy-les-Tours is a fortified medieval castle founded around 1220 by the Viscounts de Melun in Seine-et-Marne, about 60 km southeast of Paris. The castle evolved from a simple fortified manor into a full military fortress during the Hundred Years' War, with a 35-metre keep equipped with murder holes and machicolations, three defensive towers, and a moat system. After centuries of ownership by France's most powerful noble families, the castle was converted into a farm in 1707, which ironically saved it from destruction during the Revolution.

Marshal de Villars deliberately stripped the castle of its feudal appearance in 1707, removing tower roofs, demolishing the entrance gate, and filling in the moats to convert it into a farm. This act of destruction paradoxically saved the castle from being confiscated and demolished during the French Revolution, when symbols of aristocratic power were systematically destroyed across France.
