About Melun Town Hall
The Melun Town Hall is an elegant neo-classical and neo-Renaissance building located on Rue Paul-Doumer in the historic center of Melun. Designed by architect Jean-Jacques Gilson and constructed between 1846 and 1848, it stands on the site of the medieval Hôtel des Cens, which once belonged to the Abbey of Saint-Denis. The building features a grand portal opening onto a courtyard, with ornate facades adorned by sculptures from Eugène Godin, including a notable bas-relief above the central door.

The town hall was built on the site of the medieval Hôtel des Cens, which belonged to the Abbey of Saint-Denis during the Middle Ages. Before becoming a luxury residence in the 17th century, it served as a convent for the nuns of Madeleine de Trainel from 1629.
