About Château de Sarzay
The Château de Sarzay is a 14th-15th century medieval fortress in the Berry region of central France, built by the Barbançois family during the Hundred Years' War. At its peak the castle had 38 towers, three concentric defensive walls, and deep moats fed by natural springs — an exceptional scale for minor nobility. The rectangular keep features four round corner towers with machicolations and gun ports.

Richard Hurbain, a former employee of the French electricity utility EDF, bought the ruined castle in 1982 for 790,000 francs (about 120,000 euros) and has spent over 40 years restoring it largely by himself. Visitors often encounter him working in the outbuildings or grounds.
