About Conciergerie
The Conciergerie is one of the oldest and most historically significant monuments in Paris, occupying the western portion of the Palais de la Cité on the Île de la Cité. Originally a Gallo-Roman fortress, it evolved into the principal royal residence of the French kings under the Capetian dynasty. Under Philippe IV in the early 14th century, the palace reached the height of its Gothic splendor, producing the magnificent Salle des Gens d'Armes — a four-aisled vaulted hall measuring 64 metres long, considered the largest surviving medieval hall in Europe.

The Tour de l'Horloge (Clock Tower) features the oldest public clock in France, installed in 1371 by order of Charles V. It was the first public clock in Paris, allowing ordinary citizens to track time. The ornate blue-and-gold clock face visible today dates from a 1585 restoration.
