About Durzy Park
Parc Durzy is a historic public park in the center of Montargis, established in 1862 on grounds bequeathed to the city by a local citizen named Durzy. The park surrounds the former Hôtel Durzy mansion, which now houses the Musée Girodet dedicated to Neoclassical painter Anne-Louis Girodet. Visitors can stroll along shaded paths lined with rare tree species, including giant sequoias classified as Remarkable Trees, blue weeping cedars, ginkgos, and large-flowered magnolias.

The legend of the Dog of Montargis dates to the 14th century: Aubry de Montdidier was murdered by his rival Richard de Macaire in the forest of Bondy. Aubry's dog, Dragon, repeatedly attacked Macaire in public, which drew the attention of King Charles V. The king ordered a judicial duel between the dog and Macaire. The dog won the fight and Macaire confessed to the murder. This story became so famous that it inspired an 1814 melodrama performed across Europe and gave Montargis the nickname 'City of the Dog.'
