About Grand Trianon
The Grand Trianon is an exquisite pink marble palace nestled within the grounds of the Palace of Versailles, originally built in 1687 by architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart for Louis XIV as a private retreat from the formality of court life. This intimate yet elegant residence allowed the Sun King to escape the rigid etiquette of Versailles while remaining close to the seat of power.

The Grand Trianon was built in just five months in 1687, replacing an earlier porcelain-tiled pavilion known as the Trianon de Porcelaine that had deteriorated rapidly. Louis XIV was so impatient to have his retreat that he personally visited the construction site almost daily to oversee progress.
