About Petit Trianon and Queen's Hamlet
The Petit Trianon and Queen's Hamlet form the most intimate and personal corner of the Versailles estate, forever linked to Marie Antoinette. The Petit Trianon, a masterpiece of neoclassical architecture designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel, was completed in 1768 for Louis XV and later gifted to Marie Antoinette by Louis XVI in 1774. Its elegant cube-shaped structure with Corinthian columns represented a deliberate departure from baroque excess, and its interiors showcase refined 18th-century decorative arts.

Louis XV commissioned the Petit Trianon in 1758 for his mistress Madame de Pompadour, but she died in 1764 before it was completed in 1768. It was then used by his next mistress, Madame du Barry, before Louis XVI gave it to Marie Antoinette in 1774.
