About Bourbonnoux Street
Rue Bourbonnoux is one of the oldest streets in Bourges, created in the 12th century along the line of the ancient Gallo-Roman rampart. It served as the city's main commercial thoroughfare until the early 19th century, connecting the old Bourbonnoux gate to Place Gordaine. The street is lined with half-timbered houses dating mostly from the late 15th century, rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1487 that destroyed the quarter.

The street follows the exact course of the Gallo-Roman rampart of ancient Avaricum, meaning the layout preserves a roughly 2,000-year-old urban footprint. When the city expanded beyond its Roman walls in the 12th century, the space along the old fortification became a natural path for the new commercial road.
