About Amboise Museum of Art and History
Housed in the Hôtel Morin, a Renaissance mansion built between 1501 and 1505 for royal treasurer Pierre Morin, this municipal museum traces the art and history of Amboise and its surroundings. The building itself is a classified Historic Monument, designed by Jacques Coqueau and Pierre Nepveu — the same architects behind the châteaux of Chambord and Chenonceau. Collections span royal autographs signed by Charles VIII, François I and Louis XII, Aubusson tapestries from the demolished Château de Chanteloup, and works by local painter François-Guillaume Ménageot.

The museum holds a pair of dueling pistols connected to the death of Alexander Pushkin, Russia's greatest poet. The pistols belonged to Baron de Barante, French ambassador to Russia, and were lent to Georges d'Anthès for the fatal duel on January 27, 1837. How they ended up in a small Loire Valley museum remains a subject of debate among historians.
