About Blois Bishop's Palace Gardens
These terraced gardens sit on a promontory behind the former Bishop's Palace (now Blois City Hall) and the Cathedral of Saint-Louis. The site dates back over a thousand years — archaeological digs in 2011 uncovered burials from the 5th-7th centuries and a medieval cemetery active through the 14th century. The palace itself was built between 1700 and 1704 by architect Jacques V Gabriel, and the surrounding terraces were gradually shaped into formal gardens over the following decades.

A unique rose cultivar called 'Roseraie de Blois' was hybridized specifically for these gardens and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. It was created for the 1991 reopening of the redesigned rose garden.
