About Cave Monplaisir
Cave Monplaisir is a wine cellar and tasting venue housed in a former tuffeau limestone quarry covering over 2,500 square meters beneath the town of Chinon. Founded in 1987, the cave brings together wines from three Chinon appellation domains — Jean-Maurice Raffault, Domaine de l'Abbaye, and Domaine du Raifault — representing 108 hectares of vineyards. Visitors walk through underground galleries lined with over 700 oak barrels and tens of thousands of aging bottles, maintained at a constant 12°C and 85% humidity.

The tuffeau limestone extracted from this quarry was used to build the châteaux and manor houses of the Loire Valley. When the quarry was exhausted, the constant underground conditions — 12°C and 85% humidity — turned out to be ideal for aging wine, giving the space a second life.
