About Le Carroi Museum
Le Carroi is Chinon's art and history museum, housed in the Maison des États Généraux, a 14th-16th century mansion in the heart of the medieval Grand Carroi district. The building hosted the States-General assembly convened by Charles VII in 1428, one year before Joan of Arc's arrival at Chinon's fortress. The museum holds over 8,600 objects spanning archaeology, medieval sculpture, fine arts, and local history, making it one of the richest collections in the Indre-et-Loire department.

The Chape de Saint-Mexme is an 11th-century Hispano-Moorish silk textile embroidered with gold thread and leopard motifs. It is one of only a handful of medieval textiles to receive the 'Trésor National' designation from the French government, placing it among objects considered irreplaceable to France's cultural patrimony.
