About Vendôme Chapel of Saint James
The Chapelle Saint-Jacques is a 12th-century pilgrimage chapel in the heart of Vendôme's pedestrian centre, originally built as a waystation for travellers on the Camino de Santiago (Via Turonensis route). Consecrated in 1203, it was sacked by English forces during the Hundred Years' War in 1362 and rebuilt in Flamboyant Gothic style during the 15th century, which gives the building its current appearance. The chapel houses classified stained glass windows depicting the Virgin and Child, Saint Christopher, and Saint James, as well as the funerary monument containing the heart of César de Vendôme, illegitimate son of King Henri IV.
