About Château de Meillant
Château de Meillant is a medieval fortress transformed into a Renaissance showpiece over a thousand years of continuous family ownership in the Berry region. The western facade retains its defensive character with thick walls, moats, and arrow slits, while the northeastern courtyard displays an extraordinary Flamboyant Gothic facade covered in intricate stone carvings. The centerpiece is the Lion Tower, an octagonal staircase tower sculpted from base to rooftop and crowned by a gilded lead lion crafted by Italian artist Fra Giocondo.
